Belarus intends to carry out a more substantive and focused work with Russian federal networks with a view of promoting domestic agricultural products, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to Russia Dmitry Krutoi told the media following his meeting with Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko in St. Petersburg on 26 December, BelTA has learned.

According to the ambassador, Belarus' export of farm produce to the Russian market is projected to total about $6.5 billion in 2023. “In physical terms the volumes have not declined. On the contrary, they have been growing," the head of the diplomatic mission said. “But since August [2023] due to the weakening of the Russian ruble, it has become difficult for Belarusian farmers to adequately earn on export. At the end of the third quarter and the beginning of the fourth quarter, Belarusian producers under-earned from 10% to 15% of revenue due to exchange rate differences and the exchange rate policy."

In this regard, the Belarusian president set several specific tasks, the ambassador informed: "First is to tap into the reserves in terms of our prime costs (they exist). Second, we need to improve the system of commodity distribution facilities in Russia. More emphasis should be placed on developing the chain stores system and increasing the visibility of our brands. Third is to carry out a more substantive and focused work with Russian federal networks. A significant part of our products are sold there. Given the current situation, we need to build more honest and partnership relations with them.”
