Yaroslavl Oblast ranks among most active Russian regions at Belarusian commodity exchange

Exchange transactions between enterprises of Belarus and Yaroslavl Oblast of Russia amounted to $33.5 million in January-November 2024, which was one of the best results among all Russian regions trading on the Belarusian Universal Commodity Exchange (BUCE), Aleksandr Bashliy, head of foreign economic activity at BUCE, said at the 14th web-based meeting of the Export Council under the governor of Yaroslavl Oblast, BELTA learned from the BUCE press service.

“In terms of exchange turnover, Yaroslavl Oblast ranks fifth among all subjects of Russia. This is a huge step forward compared to last year, when the amount of transactions of Yaroslavl participants was as small as $130,000 in equivalent,” Aleksandr Bashliy said. “New buyers of dairy products at the exchange trading were major contributors. Thus, more than 2,000 tonnes of Belarusian butter and almost 5,000 tonnes of cheese were sold to Yaroslavl Oblast. First supplies of frozen beef to Yaroslavl have been made. The first trial deals totaling 25 tonnes were concluded in November of this year. We can say that it is agricultural products that have become the growth driver of exchange trade between Belarus and Yaroslavl Oblast.
As for the use of export opportunities of the Belarusian commodity exchange platform, according to Aleksandr Bashliy, there is also positive dynamics. In particular, in 2024, for the first time Yaroslavl exporters sold veterinary drugs and a diesel pumping station on the exchange.
“The exchange import transactions to Belarus are still small but were up by 2.7 times year-on-year. The interest in the exchange as a point of access to the Belarusian market is gradually growing,” Aleksandr Bashliy said.
As of 1 December, 4,217 Russian residents from 53 regions were accredited on BUCE. The amount of transactions concluded by them in January-November of this year exceeded $927 million, which was up by 3.7 times year-on-year. Moscow Oblast, Leningrad Oblast and Smolensk Oblast, the Republic of Tatarstan and Yaroslavl Oblast were among the top five Russian regions in terms of exchange trade turnover with Belarus.
