The meeting between Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko and Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi began in Tehran, BelTA has learned.

The venue for the meeting is Saadabad Palace. The negotiations between the presidents were preceded by an official welcome ceremony. Ebrahim Raisi greeted Aleksandr Lukashenko at the entrance to the residence. After shaking hands, the heads of state took a seat on the podium.

Aleksandr Lukashenko and Ebrahim Raisi listened to the anthems and watched the march-past of the guards of honor and proceeded to the venue of negotiations. By tradition, the presidents will hold talks one-on-one first and then will be joined by other members of the delegations.

Saadabad Palace is one of Tehran's major tourist attractions. Built in the early 20th century, the complex is located at the foot of Mount Darband. Saadabad once served as the summer residence for Iran's last monarch, Mohammad Reza Pahlavi. After the anti-Shah revolution of 1978-1979, the residence was rededicated into a museum complex. On its grounds there are 18 palace-museums and other architectural monuments of the Shah period.
