Sergeyenko: Fiscal policy should contribute to economic stability of Belarus

"In terms of legislation, our main priority is to create the conditions for the dynamic development of the economy and improving the well-being of citizens. It is important to thoroughly prepare a package of fiscal bills. All proposals should be worked out together with the government before the bills have ‘zero reading,’,” Igor Sergeyenko said. “Fiscal policy should promote economic resilience, build productive capacity, and attract investment in tomorrow's technologies. Without these, it is impossible to ensure economic sovereignty. Development of plans for the next five years largely depends on how the economy works in the final year of the five-year plan."

Igor Sergeyenko also urged to maintain the welfare focus of the budget. "Support for large families, the elderly, and the disabled should remain a priority. I would like to note that during the session we are planning to consider a number of documents on veterans, employment, state social insurance, pensions and some other matters. Voters are actively interested in the essence of the proposed innovations, and the appropriate commission should approach the preparation of bills with maximum attention and responsibility," the speaker said. “The same applies to the amendments to the Education Code. Work on the bill must be completed in line with the guidelines outlined by the president during the National Pedagogical Council. We need to take targeted measures, to polish certain aspects regarding the activities of the national school and to introduce the norms that are really needed by participants in the educational process."
 
"Another fundamental item on the agenda of the session, which is of keen interest to citizens, is the improvement of the criminal legislation. We are going to consider the bill on amendments to the Codes on Criminal Liability. The punishment for 97 categories of offenses have been revised. Of these, 65 categories of offenses have been supplemented with alternative punishment, more lenient types of punishment. According to experts, this approach will allow the courts to apply the law individually and more flexibly in each case, but will not weaken the fight against crime," Igor Sergeyenko stressed.
