Belarusian scientists expected to develop new points for economic growth

Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko expects the scientific sector to develop and promote new points of growth for the country's entire economy. The head of state made the statement as he met with scientists at the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus on 11 September, BelTA has learned.

According to the president, state resources will be concentrated on the development of the most important and significant areas of science, economy and social sector. “We expect breakthrough developments and new solutions from you in various fields, including healthcare, agriculture, energy, construction, housing and utilities, mechanical and instrument engineering, production of modern materials, development of nano- and biotechnologies, and space exploration. Everyone here understands that science should set the trends of the future, develop and promote new points of growth for the entire economy,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said.

The head of state named a number of recent achievements, including improved conditions of remuneration of employees of budgetary scientific organizations, increased postgraduate and doctoral scholarships, and additional payments to pensions for those with a scientific degree. “We will move in this direction as far as the economy lets us,” the Belarusian leader said.

In addition, the procedure to commercialize the results of sci-tech activities has been optimized, and legislation in intellectual property is further developed.

“A fundamental step has already been taken into the future scientific five-year period. Based on your proposals, common priorities of scientific, sci- tech and innovation activities were approved in May,” the head of state added.
