Less than 15% of land under maize remains unharvested in Belarus

Belarusian agricultural workers need to harvest less than 15% of land under maize, BelTA learned from the updates posted by the Agriculture and Food Ministry.

As of 30 October, maize was harvested on the area of 1.042 million hectares, or 85.5% of the plan. Belarus harvested 930,300 hectares of maize for silage and fodder (92.5% of the plan) and gathered 21.76 million tonnes of grass feed with the yield at 233.9 centners per hectare. Harvesting of maize for grain is underway and is 52.5% complete: 112,200 hectares were harvested, with 774,500 tonnes threshed.

A total of 8.834 million tonnes of grain was harvested in the country, with the average yield of 38.3 centners per hectare (34.3 centners per hectare in 2019). Minsk Oblast harvested 2.2 million tonnes of grain, Grodno Oblast cropped 1.7 million tonnes, Brest Oblast 1.5 million tonnes, Mogilev Oblast 1.2 million tonnes, Vitebsk Oblast over 1.1 million tonnes and Gomel Oblast more than 1 million tonnes.

Some 2.9 million tonnes of sugar beets were harvested on the area of 61,600 hectares (or 74.8% of land under this crop). The yield is 471 centners per hectare with the sugar content at 16.25%. As far as other vegetables are concerned, 127,900 tonnes of vegetables were harvested on the area of 5,130 hectares (85.7% of the plan). The yield was 249.1 centners per hectare.

Some 13.673 million tonnes of haylage (108.5%) and 18.683 million tonnes of silage (97.5%) were stocked. Plans are in place to procure 9.3 million tonnes of fodder units of grass feed, most of them in Minsk Oblast and Brest Oblast. By this time, 100.5% of the plan has been fulfilled.
