Belarus will continue working to replace fuel imports, Belarusian Deputy Energy Minister Olga Prudnikova said at a press conference in BelTA;s press center on 16 April, BelTA has learned.

“For the energy system and our organizations the Year of Quality means the quality of our products, works and services. Every enterprise in Belarus is directly connected with the energy system and fuel suppliers. So any failure in the system, its reliability and stability immediately affects all consumers. We are making great efforts to maintain all processes in a normal operation mode," Olga Prudnikova said.

According to her, the ongoing work to replace fuel imports in ongoing. "By using nuclear power, we have the opportunity to reduce fossil fuels. However traditional energy sources run on them. Therefore, work continues in the energy system to increase the share of local fuel and energy resources in the energy consumption mix," Olga Prudnikova noted.

So, over the past year, electric energy providers helped save about 200 million cubic meters of natural gas. Another 200 million cubic meters of natural gas were also replaced thanks to the use of peat products by industrial enterprises, primarily by the housing and utilities sector and the cement industry.

"Energy security is related to both economic and environmental security. Therefore, this issue should be considered comprehensively," Olga Prudnikova added. “We have new types of fuel, for example, fuel pellets, in the energy consumption mix of our country. We are testing and already using them. Projects to build new energy sources at three facilities in Brest Oblast and Minsk Oblast are in the pipeline."
