The head of state emphasized that this year is special for Belarus because it marks an important date - the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War. Vitebsk Oblast was one of the regions that were hit the hardest during that devastating war. “Even now, we are looking for evidence of the Nazi atrocities in our Belarus and also establishing facts attesting to the genocide of the Belarusian people. And, you know, we find a lot of mass graves in Vitebsk Oblast,” the president said.
Many commemorative events are to be held in Belarus and Russia in 2025 to mark the 80th anniversary of the Victory and to pay tribute to the feat of the Soviet people. The leaders of the two countries are expected to take part in some of them. One of these events will take place at the end of April. This is an international forum in Volgograd dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the Great Victory.
“This is a truly special year for Vitebsk Oblast, for our Belarus. And today we are actually taking the first steps to celebrate this Great Victory. In the coming days, we will continue these celebrations near Stalingrad, on Volgograd land. We agreed with the president of Russia to meet there, talk to the youth, pay tribute to the heroes who fought on the Volga land. Next is the parade in Moscow, in Belarus. We will be paying tribute to the war heroes up until Independence Day,” the head of state said.
