The 80th anniversary of Belarus’ liberation from the Nazi invaders is a special date not only for Belarus, but also for Russia,  State Secretary of the Belarus-Russia Union State Dmitry Mezentsev said at the opening of the Belarus’ Liberation temporary exhibition at VDNKh in Moscow, BelTA has learned.

“We see Belarus’ immense appreciation of the feat of the [Soviet] soldiers, the respectful treatment of veterans of the Great Patriotic War, home front workers and partisans who are still alive. We understand that this is becoming distant past, but this does not mean that we can forget about this page in our history,” Dmitry Mezentsev said.

“Today we bow our heads to the memory of the fallen. It is very important that we remember the names of these people, including those featured in this exhibition,” Dmitry Mezentsev emphasized.

The Belarus’ Liberation temporary exhibition was put together by the Culture Ministry of Belarus and the Belarusian State Museum of the Great Patriotic War History. It opened in the exhibition pavilion “Republic of Belarus” at VDNKh. The project walks visitors through the key military operations on the territory of Belarus. The exhibition will be running at VDNKh until 4 August.
