"Today we are the people who happened to hear Alexander Grigoryevich Lukashenko's speech from the rostrum in this hall: a capacious, large-scale one. Great attention was paid to the positioning of Belarus as an independent sovereign republic and the future of the country. But attention was also paid to the international agenda," the Secretary of State of the Union State noted.
Dmitry Mezentsev also stressed that it is very dear and significant that an important and meaningful part was given to relations with Russia within the framework of the Union State in the speech of the President of Belarus.
"This is not a report, not a speech, this is an event for the country. This picture that was presented, the picture of the national leader in Belarus, is also dear to Russians," the Secretary of State of the Union State said. "And what happened today is so significant and honorable: the system of relations between the two national leaders Alexander Grigoryevich Lukashenko and Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin, and the fact that we provide a different level of integration work that was expected 5-7 years ago, we set an example for the CIS, for the EU," Dmitry Mezentsev emphasized. He named the key components of the foundation of the Union State: trust, equality of dialogue and success. All that the leaders of Belarus and Russia consolidated by exchanging instruments of ratification in January 2000, confirming the status of the Union Treaty, the 25th anniversary of which will be celebrated this year.
