Belarus President's team clinch 4th win in amateur ice hockey tournament

The Belarus President's team secured its fourth victory in the 16th national amateur ice hockey tournament for the prizes of the Presidential Sports Club on 11 February, BelTA has learned.

The Belarus President's team beat the Grodno Oblast team 8-1 (4-0, 3-0, 1-1).

The match started with a number of attacks from the hosts, and Artyom Antonenko, Denis Grot, Aleksandr Lukashenko and Pavel Volchek each had a goal in the opening six minutes. Artyom Antonenko scored his second midway through the second stanza. His father, captain of the Belarus President's team Oleg Antonenko extended the lead. Nikolai Lukashenko made it 7-0 before the second hooter. In the last period the teams traded goals through Artyom Karkotsky and Yevgeny Letov.

Grodno Oblast defenseman Aleksandr Vasilyev and Belarus President's team goalkeeper Stepan Goryachevskikh were named the best players of the match. Chairman of the Belarusian Ice Hockey Federation Aliaksandr Bahdanovich presented memorable gifts.

Fans were treated to the performance of Belarusian pop singers during the breaks and also had a chance to take part in contests to win prizes from the Presidential Sports Club. Fans also got dozens of toys from the players of the Belarus President's team. With today's victory the Belarus President's team have nine points. The Minsk Oblast team is three points behind. The first leg of the tournament will be over in March 2023. The best four teams will advance into the playoffs.

The Belarus President's team is a 13-time winner of the national amateur ice hockey tournament, with the teams of Gomel Oblast and Minsk Oblast each raising the trophy once.

The organizers of the national amateur ice hockey tournament are the Presidential Sports Club, the Sports and Tourism Ministry, and the Minsk City Hall.
