Belarus' Maryna Zuyeva clinches gold at Russian Speed Skating Championship

The Russian Speed Skating Championship has kicked off in the Kuzbass Ice Palace in Kemerovo, BelTA has learned.

Competing are 160 athletes from 25 subjects of the Russian Federation and also speed skaters from Belarus. The first competition day featured four medal events. Leader of the Belarusian national team Maryna Zuyeva won the 3,000m event clocking 4:13.45 and finishing 0.14 seconds ahead of four-time world medalist Evgeniia Lalenkova of Russia.

Belarus' Hanna Damaratskaya clocked 38.91 seconds to take bronze in the 500m event. Belarus' Ignat Golovatsiuk finished 5th in the men's 500m.

The Russian Speed Skating Championship will be over on 29 December.
