The Presidential Library of the Republic of Belarus presented a number of exhibitions for the Day of National Unity

In honor of the Day of National Unity, the Presidential Library of the Republic of Belarus organized a number of thematic exhibitions, which presented books, photos and various materials of the 20-30s of the XX century, reports a correspondent of the Soyuz.by portal. These publications reflect the policy of polonisation, various forms and methods of the national liberation movement in Western Europe, political movements of their leaders, as well as modern publications of prominent Belarusian scientists, political figures and political scientists.
NOTE: The holiday is dedicated to the beginning of the liberation campaign of the Red Army in Western Belarus in 1939, as a result of which the Belarusian people, divided under the terms of the Riga Peace Treaty, were reunited again.

During the exhibition Lilia Efimovich, the Head of the Sector of the Service Department, told about the main points of the chronological period from the signing of the Riga Peace Treaty to the present day.
There were presented literary works about participants of military operations, as well as heroes who became famous due to their courage and bravery. For example, one of the books contains the memoirs of Vladimir Tsaryuk, one of the leaders of the partisan movement in the occupied territory. Another literary work tells about Nadezhda Grekova, who in 1938 headed the Supreme Soviet of the BSSR. Lilia Yefimovich also told the details of the reunification of Western Belarus, which took place as a result of the Polish Red Army campaign on September 17, 1939.
“Many archival sources provide information about how the population of Western Belarus greeted the soldiers of the Red Army with joy: with bread, salt and flowers.”
“At the present stage our Belarusian politicians, political scientists, scientists are already actively working to collect archival documents and materials, to fill the gaps in the history of our state, and, of course, to establish the historical truth. We hope that such publications will become even more numerous and will be reflected in the collection of the Presidential Library of the Republic of Belarus,” said Lilia Yefimovich.
In turn, Svetlana Pavlovitskaya, the Head of the Department of Old Printed and Rare Editions, told more about the frames presented at the photo-exhibition within the framework of the exhibition.
“Today there is a unique opportunity to see the documents that are kept in the funds of our library. If we talk about the exhibition, these are original documents, as well as materials that we have placed as copies in order to show the mood that was at the time of the reunification of Western and Soviet Belarus,” said the Head of the Department.
According to her words, among the first periodicals of that time, which responded to the event, were such publications as “ Zvyazda”, “Sovetskaya Belarus”, “Chyrvonaya zmena”, newspaper “Pravda”.
The Director of the Presidential Library of the Republic of Belarus, Sergei Kvachan, notes that the library houses about 400 editions that reflect the events of the 20-30 years of the XX century.
“It's necessary for the people alive to make sure it doesn't happen again, and also for our younger generation to value independence and understand how easy it is to lose it and how important and hard it is to defend it,” Sergey Kvachan told the crowd.
