Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko sent a letter on occasion of the inauguration of the monument “Living Memory of Grateful Generations” in Brest, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian leader.

The head of state noted that the nationwide monument “The Living Memory of Grateful Generations”, the second of the planned trilogy of monuments in Minsk, Brest Fortress and Moscow, was dedicated on 28 July.

“The memory of the Great Patriotic War has no statute of limitations. It lives in our hearts, teaches us to appreciate freedom and peace, unites millions of people who proudly call themselves heirs of the victors, lives in spite of unprecedented attempts to cross out the historical truth. It has long become a part of the national idea of Belarusians,” the letter reads.

Now this memory is embodied in the symbolic image of the tree of life, the crown of which, breaking the metal, symbolizes the peoples standing firmly on their native land, striving for peace and development. “Our roots are ancient. As long as we remember the origins, honor the achievements of our predecessors, they nourish us with strength,” the president said.

Aleksandr Lukashenko expressed gratitude to representatives of more than half a million families from Belarus, Russia, near and far abroad, who joined the initiative by the Belarusian charitable foundation to immortalize the endless gratitude to the heroes of the Great Patriotic War.

“Everything that we do together to preserve a common historical memory, we do for a peaceful future on Earth. Eighty years ago, we also stood our ground and we won together. We will do everything to protect the clear sky over our Motherland,” the head of state emphasized.
