Statements about Belarus losing its independence from rapprochement with Russia are an utter nonsense, Belarus’ Ambassador to Russia Dmitry Krutoi said in an interview with the ONT TV channel, BelTA has learned

When asked to comment on such statements, the ambassador emphasized: “This is utter nonsense.”

According to Dmitry Krutoi, the Belarus-Russia Union State Treaty will mark 25 years this year. “The basic point and the main goal is a common economic space. That is, all that we are doing now is an attempt to build this common economic space, to create equal conditions for our producers,” he said. “All this [statements about Belarus losing its sovereignty] is absolute nonsense. This mantra has become obsolete long ago.”

The ambassador said that during the negotiations with Western banking organizations, political circles and the management of specific enterprises in previous years, direct access to the Russian market was put as the first condition for investment and establishment of enterprises in Belarus.

“We need to do our job and implement the programs and plans, approved by our presidents,” Dmitry Krutoi said.

He added that recently the partners in Belarus and Russia have learned to work together rather than share the market and compete. “This is most clearly manifested in the transport sector. Here our government agencies and business entities are working at an exemplary level,” the ambassador said.

As for industry, it gradually becomes possible to overcome the division on the principle of “foreigner - not foreigner, your goods - our goods”. “Over the past two years, there have been actually very few cases of the kind,” Dmitry Krutoi said.
