US Open: Sabalenka into round three

Belarus' world number 6 Aryna Sabalenka has secured her second win at the ongoing US Open in New York to advance into the third round, BelTA has learned.

The Belarusian battled back to move past world number 34 Kaia Kanepi of Estonia, 2-6, 10-8, 6-4.

Aryna Sabalenka swept into the US Open second round seeing off world number 243 Catherine Harrison of the United States, 6-1, 6-3. The Belarusian will next play world number 131 Clara Burel of France.

Former world number one and Victoria Azarenka of Belarus, currently No.26, moved into the third round defeating Ukraine's world number 65 Marta Kostyuk, 6-2, 6-3. Victoria Azarenka toppled world number 244 Ashlyn Krueger of the United States, 6-1, 4-6, 6-2, in the first round. She will next play Croatia's world number 54 Petra Martic.

Belarus' world number 32 Aliaksandra Sasnovich lost 4-6, 4-6 to world number 8 Jessica Pegula of the United States. Aliaksandra Sasnovich solved Italy's world number 99 Elisabetta Cocciaretto, 6-2, 6-4 to pass first hurdle in New York.

Belarus' world number 73 Ilya Ivashka solved world number 10 Hubert Hurkacz, 6-4, 4-6, 7-6 (7-5), 6-3, in the second round. He will next face Italy's world number 30 Lorenzo Musetti. In the opener the Belarusian overcame world number 287 Sam Querrey of the United States, 4-6, 6-4, 7-6 (10-8), 6-3.

The U.S. Open is set to have a record-setting total prize of $60 million. Winners in the men's and women's singles events will earn $2.6 million each, finalists - $1.3 million. The final Grand Slam event of the year will be over on 11 September.
