Shimanovich named European Male Swimmer of 2020

Belarus' Ilya Shimanovich was named the European Male Swimmer of 2020, according to swimswam.com, BelTA has learned.

The 26-year-old Belarusian swimmer's main achievement last year was a new world record of 55.34 seconds in the 100m breaststroke. The record was set on 19 December in Brest during the Belarus Open Swimming Championship, when Ilya Shymanovich surpassed the achievement of UK's Adam Peaty, who was the leader in the discipline, by 0.07 seconds. The Belarusian athlete also set two European records in the 25-meter pool and updated more than a dozen national records in various swimming disciplines.

Ilya Shymanovich beat Adam Peaty, Italy's Gregorio Paltrinieri and Russia's Kliment Kolesnikov in the contest for the title of Europe's best swimmer in 2020.
