Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus will claim WTA world number one ranking after the US Open, moving Iga Swiatek of Poland from top position, BelTA learned from the WTA website.

Poland's Iga Swiatek held her No.1 spot from April 2022. To keep atop, she was to perform better than Aryna Sabalenka at the US Open. However, Iga Swiatek lost to Jelena Ostapenko of Latvia, 3-6, 6-3, 6-1, in the fourth round.

Aryna Sabalenka advanced to the round of Last 16 after seeing off Clara Burel of France. The Belarusian will take on Russia's Daria Kasatkina for a spot in the quarterfinal.

As the season progressed, the Belarusian tennis player said that what mattered most to her was what to be at the end of the season. “For me it is more important how you finish the year, and not that during the year you become the first one, the second one, go up, or go down. I will continue to work and do my best to finish this year as the world number one,” Aryna Sabalenka was quoted as saying by sports.ru.
