Belarus’ Ihar Boki wins 5th gold at Paris Paralympics, sets world record

Belarusian swimmer Ihar Boki has wrapped up his individual performances at the Summer Paralympic Games in Paris on a high note, BelTA has learned.

His last discipline at the Paris Paralympics was Men’s 200m Individual Medley – S13. Ihar Boki clocked the best time (2:10:55) in the preliminary heats earlier in the morning. All the competitors were behind him four seconds and more. In the evening final, the Belarusian won by a large margin clocking 2:02:03 to set a new world record.
That was the fifth gold in Paris for the most decorated swimmer in the history of the Paralympics. Earlier, Ihar Boki won the 100m Butterfly and the 100m Backstroke, the 400m Freestyle, and the 50m Freestyle. All in all, the Belarusian Paralympic legend has 21 gold medals under his belt. At his first Paralympic Games, which were the 2012 London Paralympics, the Belarusian athlete won five gold medals. Later on he added six golds at Rio 2016 and five golds at Tokyo 2020 to his medal tally.
By now, neutral athletes from Belarus have won six gold medals. Earlier on Tuesday, Belarus’ Yahor Shchalkanau won the 100m Backstroke - S9.
