Belarus’ Hanna Tserakh claims gold at Russian Track Cycling Championship

Russia’s Track Cycling Cup, Track Cycling Championship and Competitions in St. Petersburg are drawing to a close, BelTA has learned.

The cyclists competed for medals in the Russian championship during several days. Belarus' Hanna Tserakh claimed gold in the women's event. She was victorious in the first, second and third stages, coming second in the final fourth stage. In the overall standings Hanna Tserakh was 10 points ahead of silver medalist Natalia Frolova from Russia’s Tula Oblast; another Belarusian athlete Karolina Biriuk came third. Belarus’ Iryna Chuyankova and Taisa Noskovich took 6th and 13th places among 18 participants.
In men’s events, Belarusian cyclist Roman Romanov was one step away from the podium. The Belarusian cyclist was among the top three in two out of six stages, but was fourth in the overall standings, only three points behind the bronze medalist. Lev Gonov from St. Petersburg became champion. Other Belarusians, Yauheni Karaliok and Dzianis Mazur, finished 15th and 16th respectively, while Stepan Bezgerts and Artur Kiryevich were 21st and 22nd respectively among the 24 finalists. Belarusian cyclists Vadim Odinets, Dzianis Marchuk, Aliaksei Shmantsar, Dmitry Ivanchenko and Anton Klinchik did not make it to the finals.
Saint Petersburg is also hosting the Russian Cup. So far the Belarusian team has two trophies - gold and bronze, both brought by Artsiom Zaitsau. At first, the Belarusian took third place in the 200-meter standing start heat, later becoming the sprint winner.
