Million Sweet Gifts: Kommunarka Shares How It Gets Ready for New Year Holidays

Kommunarka confectionery launched New Year preparations as far back as in February. The company’s specialists were evaluating the trends of the confectionery market, pondering on what New Year packaging should look like, and most importantly – were considering the options for gift box contents. The correspondent of the Union State portal has found out what kind of gifts Kommunarka is preparing for the upcoming holidays.

The company is planning to produce 1 million 100 thousand gifts ranging from 300 grams to 3 kg before the holiday season starts.
“We have already made 1 million New Year gifts. We are to make about 200 thousand more. Last year, the manufacturing volume was slightly lower: 1,050,000 gifts. In total, our country makes 2.5 million gifts, so our share equals about a half of this number,” said Ivan Danchenko, Head of Kommunarka.
Sweet gifts can be packed in a bright colorful cardboard box, gift bags in the shape of soft toys, packages in the shape of suitcases, Father Frost bags, pillows and backpacks. As for the contents of the gifts, Svetlana Gontareva, Deputy General Director for Commercial Affairs, said that most often gifts are made of classic and recognizable sweets such as “Alyonka”, “Little Red Riding Hood” and “Bird's Milk”.
“No doubt, consumers are asking for new products as everyone wants to try them. We have tried to refuse caramels as they are becoming less and less popular. As a result, it turns out that a sweet gift consists of chocolate bars, classic sweets and a new assortment,” said Svetlana Gontareva.
She also added that not only shop personnel are involved in putting New Year gifts together. Administrative office employees also help to fill Christmas boxes since on the eve of New Year there are a great many orders.
“They started putting gifts together at the end of September. We operate on a three-shift basis and yet work against the clock, so additional work blocks have been created, additional employees are being involved. On average, one person makes about 200 gifts per day if they are small. If a gift is from 2 kg, then up to 100 per day,” said Svetlana Gontareva.
Gifts are sold through retail outlets, national sales networks, trade unions and tenders. Moreover, company stores can fill a wooden or a cardboard box with the sweets a customer likes. It is worth noting that this year the company also produces New Year gifts for the Children’s New Year Party organized by the President.
