Belarus-Russia agreement on mutual security guarantees virtually ready

Aleksandr Volfovich remarked that the ongoing meeting of secretaries of security councils of the CIS states in Moscow had enabled an opportunity for bilateral contacts. Aleksandr Volfovich met with Nikolai Patrushev and discussed matters concerning the security of the Union State of Belarus and Russia. Matters relating to the preparation of the agreement on guarantees of mutual security between the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus were reviewed. “The agreement is virtually ready. It is now up to our ministries of foreign affairs to say the word. I think the agreement will soon be forwarded to our heads of state for signing,” the secretary of Belarus' Security Council said.

In his words, Aleksandr Volfovich and Nikolai Patrushev also discussed matters concerning the concept of security of the Union State of Belarus and Russia. “This document is also nearly ready. All the fundamental matters have been addressed. The staffs of the security councils have done a lot of work,” Aleksandr Volfovich clarified. “I think that next year this document will also be presented at a session of the Supreme State Council for signing by the leaders.”

A plan to guide bilateral cooperation between the staffs of the security councils of Belarus and Russia in 2024-2025 was also approved. “This document allows us to continue the work aimed at ensuring the security of our countries on the basis of planning,” the official remarked.

“I've also talked to colleagues from other CIS states. Matters of mutually beneficial bilateral cooperation were also touched upon,” Aleksandr Volfovich said.
