Today, on September 20, the National Library of Belarus hosted the International Scientific and Practical Conference "International Standards and the Electoral Process: experience and prospects for development" within the International Electoral Forum. The event was attended by Chairman of the Central Election Commission Igor Krapenko, First Deputy Head of the Presidential Administration of Belarus Natalia Petkevich, Director General of the National Library of Belarus Vadim Gigin, Minister of Justice Yevgeny Kovalenko, Minister of Information Marat Markov, heads of electoral authorities of the CIS member states, executive and administrative authorities, representatives of international organizations, deputies, scientific and pedagogical community, scientists and experts. Marianna Shchetkina, Head of the Representative Office of the Standing Committee in Minsk, conveyed greetings from Dmitry Mezentsev, Secretary of State of the Union State, to the guests and participants of the conference, the correspondent reports Soyuz.by.

In her report on the role of civil society in ensuring electoral security, Marianna Shchetkina highlighted that the period of the electoral process is an indicator that determines the degree of public health. "Increasing electoral activity through participation in elections is a very important process. Absenteeism, of course, can be considered, on the one hand, as your choice, but, on the other hand, as disconnection from the political process and disbelief in your own strength. Therefore, it is important to instill a legal culture, build trust in the electoral system through training, education, involvement in decision–making, as is done in Belarus, through the work of dialogue and discussion platforms, constitutional councils and other forms involving public associations and parties," she added.
The Head of the Representative Office of the Standing Committee noted that, despite the differences in the electoral systems of different countries, they all face the same problems. "Purposeful activities, including those of civil society, contribute to the achievement of these goals," Shchetkina noted.
She also stressed the importance of communication in working with society. "In the era of the information society, the possibilities of communication processes have expanded significantly, but nothing can replace direct communication with the population," the speaker noted. In her opinion, the work of public reception offices, which have been operating in Belarus for many years, serves as a positive experience.
Marianna Shchetkina added that in order to improve the efficiency of public organizations, it is necessary to plan joint activities, train leaders and assets.
In conclusion, the Head of the Representative Office of the Standing Committee stressed the importance of resisting external interference in the political life of the country.
The annual forum opens up new opportunities for the exchange of knowledge, experience and ideas, and becomes a platform for open discussion by professionals and all those interested in electoral law and technology. This year, the topics discussed were issues of security and digitalization of the electoral process, participation of civil society in elections, and legal education of young people.
