Belarus president informed about urban development, situation in Minsk

The implementation of a number of urban development projects in Minsk and the state of affairs in the city as a whole were discussed as Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko met with Minsk Mayor Anatoly Sivak on 2 June, BelTA has learned.

The head of state noted that the construction of the multipurpose complex Minsk World was the main issue he would like to discuss. The work proceeds on schedule according to the reports submitted to the head of state, however, Aleksandr Lukashenko wondered whether there were any problems. “But most of all I am concerned about the construction of public buildings – the financial center, the shopping and entertainment center a bit – which cannot be sold to make a quick profit today. Housing is understandable and clear. They build good apartments, well done. But it is also necessary to take care of other buildings. What about the infrastructure over there? Is the project on schedule at all?” the Belarusian leader said to outline the matters for discussion.
The second matter had been initiated by the Minsk city administration and concerned the placement of the National Historical Museum of Belarus. Aleksandr Lukashenko wondered: “What are we going to do with the building of the history museum? Are we going to build a new building in the future or repair or expand this one? It is up to the Minsk city administration. I am ready to discuss it.”
The matter of the possible construction of a multifunctional teaching hospital in Minsk was also raised during the meeting. “Are we going to build one or not? Should be reform the healthcare system [in the capital city] in some way? It is understandable we cannot build one now. There are other things that need our attention. But nevertheless we need to see prospects,” the head of state noted.
Aleksandr Lukashenko also asked Anatoly Sivak about the overall situation in the city. “I want you and law enforcement agencies to ensure total order in the hero city of Minsk. People's normal lives should not be impeded,” Aleksandr Lukashenko stated.
The president remarked that Minsk is a cozy, convenient, and beautiful city where families with kids can go on walks, where people can go in for various sports. “But some people are itching to do things. So, what is the situation here?” the head of state wondered.
