Belarus has come up with options for transporting Russian citizens from Poland to the home country, BelTA learned from Belarusian Transport and Communications Minister Aleksei Avramenko on 19 March.

The official said: “Today we've worked out these routes together with the State Border Committee and are ready to transport Russians towards the border. We've prepared the buses already. As groups of Russian citizens willing to leave Poland via our checkpoints form up, we will be able to transport them to the Russian border.”

In his words, transportation is now possible via three border checkpoints at the Belarusian-Polish border – two in Brest Oblast and one in Grodno Oblast.

Belarusian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Andrei Dapkiunas specified that the number of Russian citizens, who need to leave Poland, is not very large. “Our ambassador in Warsaw says the number of Russians willing to leave Poland now is small – 5-7 requests per day. And according to Russian colleagues, there was a genuinely critical situation several days ago. Only yesterday the Russian ambassador contacted ours with this problem. Regardless of the gravity of the situation Belarusian authorities and Belarusian diplomatic missions abroad are ready to treat Russian citizens as our own and provide this kind of assistance,” Andrei Dapkiunas stressed.

Belarusian Sports and Tourism Minister Sergei Kovalchuk confirmed that the Belarusian side is intent on helping foreign citizens get back to their home countries via Belarus. “We offer the best terms we can, including to citizens of the Russian Federation. It is necessary to provide maximum assistance with moving people in a complicated situation across Belarus' territory,” he added.
